Within the last week, we\u2019ve had two very informative Zoom sessions with Maya educators and community organizers in Mexico and the U.S. We demonstrated the Ancient Maya App, and discussed how it can be used and expanded. One of the suggestions is that the app provide a full Spanish interface. Currently, only some menus are in both Spanish and English. Another suggestion was to provide documentation regarding use of the app. YouTube videos would be helpful as well as lesson plans for teachers. So far we only have a single video<\/a> showing how the app helps to translate a glyph block.
Perhaps the most interesting suggestion and discussion centered around using the app to build glyph blocks from modern Yucatec Maya. One of the group members has written a program to do this. If this feature can be integrated into the app, there are many potential uses for Maya people in the Yucatan. This would also bring the beauty of the Maya glyphs into contemporary Yucatecan life and not consign the glyphs to the past.
For future development of the app, we would like to work with others who can verify data for the app and who can work on software development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Durante la semana pasada, tuvimos dos reuniones por Zoom muy informativas, con profesores y organizadores comunitarios mayas en M\u00e9xico y Estados Unidos. Mostramos c\u00f3mo funciona la app, Ancient Maya App, y discutimos c\u00f3mo puede ser usada y aplicada. Una de las sugerencias es que la aplicaci\u00f3n proporcione una interfaz completamente en espa\u00f1ol. Actualmente, solo algunos men\u00fas se ofrecen en espa\u00f1ol e ingl\u00e9s. Otra sugerencia es proporcionar la documentaci\u00f3n necesaria de c\u00f3mo se usa la aplicaci\u00f3n. Videos en YouTube pueden ser \u00fatiles, as\u00ed como una gu\u00eda para maestros. Hasta ahora, solo tenemos un video<\/a> que muestra c\u00f3mo la aplicaci\u00f3n ayuda a traducir un bloque de glifos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tal vez la sugerencia y discusi\u00f3n m\u00e1s interesante sea el enfoque en el uso de la aplicaci\u00f3n para construir bloques de glifos para el yucateco moderno. Un miembro del grupo ha creado un programa para hacer esto. Si esta funci\u00f3n pudiera ser integrada a la aplicaci\u00f3n, habr\u00eda muchos usos potenciales para la gente maya en Yucat\u00e1n. Esto traer\u00eda la belleza de los glifos mayas a la vida yucateca contempor\u00e1nea y no dejarlos en el pasado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
