{"id":34,"date":"2022-12-27T17:26:08","date_gmt":"2022-12-27T17:26:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/letsallgoboldly.org\/?p=34"},"modified":"2022-12-27T17:26:08","modified_gmt":"2022-12-27T17:26:08","slug":"uxmal-and-other-maya-archeological-sites","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/letsallgoboldly.org\/?p=34","title":{"rendered":"Uxmal and other Maya archeological sites"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A visit to a Maya archeological site is always a great experience.&nbsp; There is a lot to see, learn, and admire.&nbsp; It\u2019s impossible to visit without being impressed by the architecture.&nbsp; The Maya were masters at construction.&nbsp; And they developed an intricate writing system that is both artistically beautiful and culturally significant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have been to Copan in Honduras, Tikal in Guatemala, and Palenque in Mexico.&nbsp; At each site, we were awed by the buildings, stellae, etc. that we saw.&nbsp; So, we\u2019re really looking forward to exploring and spending time at Uxmal in the Yucatan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Uxmal is one of the most important Maya sites; its importance has been recognized by UNESCO which has designated Uxmal as a World Heritage site.&nbsp; There are several important buildings at Uxmal such as the Governor\u2019s Palace and the Nunnery.&nbsp; In addition, there is a large ballcourt on the site.&nbsp; The buildings feature carvings of symbols and animals that are of significance to the Maya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We hope to explore the site with a special interest in looking at glyphs and inscriptions.\u00a0 Our hope is that the Ancient Maya app will be useful for guides and visitors at the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/letsallgoboldly.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_1934-1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35\" srcset=\"https:\/\/letsallgoboldly.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_1934-1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/letsallgoboldly.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_1934-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/letsallgoboldly.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_1934-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/letsallgoboldly.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_1934-1-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/letsallgoboldly.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_1934-1-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Palenque<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A visit to a Maya archeological site is always a great experience.&nbsp; There is a lot to see, learn, and admire.&nbsp; It\u2019s impossible to visit without being impressed by the architecture.&nbsp; The Maya were masters at construction.&nbsp; And they developed an intricate writing system that is both artistically beautiful and culturally significant.
