Write Feature Bug!

Update: this bug has been fixed.

My friend Memo is an expert epigrapher. He found a bug converting the Latin alphabet Maya text “Ko’ox kanik u masil maya” to glyph blocks. Here’s what the app currently does:

As Memo points out, the first glyph is incorrect. Here’s his comment:

First, I want to point out what a great bug report this is! Memo’s description in red text is precise and includes a reference to an authoritative source. He identifies the error in the transliteration and even draws in a correct phonetic glyph block for “ko-xa”. We could not have asked for anything more. Thanks Memo!

Tommy volunteered to investigate this issue. I expect the code will be fixed fairly soon. After the code is fixed we’ll make a new release.

I’m not surprised our app has a bug like this. I expect there are several more. If you see a conversion you think is off, please let us know. What our app is doing isn’t easy. It integrates authoritative information and resources to convert Mayan writing in the Latin alphabet to correct and valid glyph blocks. I’ve seen no other app or even website that does this. Perhaps no one has written a program before to do this before. While we may have a few more bugs to find, most of our conversions are probably right. For the conversion of “Ko’ox kanik u masil maya” our app seems to have 80% of the glyph blocks correct. For something hasn’t been done before, it’s a reasonable start.
