The #AncientMayaApp release I made on Friday Feb 13th crashed immediately on Android devices. It doesn’t run at all. I uploaded a fix Saturday morning at 10:20. Hopefully, Android will make that release available sometime Saturday afternoon, although they can take a day or two to process the update. The app store will show the …
The next release of the AncientMayaApp will write numbers. I used this to recreate another glyph block from Memo Kantun’s Ritual de los Bacabes. Since the app can’t write dates yet I recreated a glyph block corresponding to a ruler’s title, I believe 4-ajaw. I think (again) my main glyph doesn’t sit on the bottom …
Studying Memo Kantun’s Ritual de los Bacabes led me to a bug in the app. The image shows Memo’s “bakana”, the app’s earlier rendering, and the corrected version. In the older output, the right-side affix glyph was incorrectly oriented relative to the main glyph. This bug affected a lot of writing. Transforming and rendering affix …

I started with a very simple word: “bina”, which appears several times in …
Here’s a YouTube video showing the “text editor” feature. Now you can click on the glyph blocks created in on the Write page to change how words are written. The image below shows “otoot” written four different ways. We have big plans for extending the text editor!

I would love to know where this was done and help support whatever they’re working on. A school? A university? A museum? Developers get some basic activity stats from the iOS App Store. I don’t …
The Ancient Maya App, originally built for smartphone, now runs under Windows. Our first test release is in the Windows Store. A few friends are already trying it out and helping identify compatibility issues across different Windows 10 and 11 systems. Everything works except the Read feature — that fix is on the way and …

Double thanks to Prof. Lauren Sullivan! She teaches at both Tufts and UMass Boston. This week we presented our Introduction to Maya Writing Workshop to her Maya History class at UMass Boston. Last week we presented at her Mesoamerican class at Tufts. We’re always grateful for the opportunity to do our little workshop. Here’s a …
