A visit to a Maya archeological site is always a great experience. There is a lot to see, learn, and admire. It’s impossible to visit without being impressed by the architecture. The Maya were masters at construction. And they developed an intricate writing system that is both artistically beautiful and culturally significant.
We have been to Copan in Honduras, Tikal in Guatemala, and Palenque in Mexico. At each site, we were awed by the buildings, stellae, etc. that we saw. So, we’re really looking forward to exploring and spending time at Uxmal in the Yucatan.
Uxmal is one of the most important Maya sites; its importance has been recognized by UNESCO which has designated Uxmal as a World Heritage site. There are several important buildings at Uxmal such as the Governor’s Palace and the Nunnery. In addition, there is a large ballcourt on the site. The buildings feature carvings of symbols and animals that are of significance to the Maya.
We hope to explore the site with a special interest in looking at glyphs and inscriptions. Our hope is that the Ancient Maya app will be useful for guides and visitors at the site.
